It's entirely up to you how to decorate your home and your space can be as peaceful or lively as it's colored. Understanding how colors can affect the overall vibe of your space can help in making your home that much more of your favorite place to be.

THE BASICS OF THE COLOR WHEEL
& understanding which colors work together

Picture
Complementary: Colors directly across from one another on the color wheel
Analagous: Colors directly next to one another on the color wheel
Triad: Colors evenly spaced from one another on the color wheel

RED
daring, imaginative, bold, exciting

Best used in dining room
Gives room a higher energy, brings people together and stimulates conversation. Red may have some effects in increasing blood pressure, heart rate, and respiration, but the positive effects can make this color really pop.

YELLOW
bright, outdoorsy, happy

Best used in kitchen and bathroom
Can make a room seem larger. Energizing and uplifting, high energy, positive. Welcome a splash of sunshine into your home to keep the summer vibes present even on the greyest of days.

GREEN
reliable, intelligent, successful, tranquility, health

Best used in bedroom
When used as the main color scheme, green can help to calm the body and relieve stress. Can be used in any room, either as main color scheme or accent, to build a creative space to relax and unwind.

BLUE
productive, honest, cheerful

Best used in office
Calming effects to reduce blood pressure and slow respiration and heart rate. When used in lighter hues, balance with warm tones to complete the space. Darker shades can create feelings of sadness if used as a main color, but touches of dark blue as an accent can add dimension to a space.

PURPLE
sophisticated, charming, strong, royal

Best used in living room
Darker hues like eggplant can be rich and elegant while adding a touch of drama and sophistication and you can use purple as a main color scheme for a sense of luxury and creativity. Add a splash of lavender instead of light blue to get the same calming effects but without making the space feel cold.

NEUTRALS
versatile, classic, timeless

Best used in every room
Use touches of black and white to create a full spectrum of color, adding weight and depth to your decor. Use neutrals to calm or excited a space by adding or reducing their use.

What's your favorite color to use when decorating your space? Let me know in the comments!

 GREAT THINGS ARE EVERYWHERE

I've always known how many wonderful sights and sounds (and I won't even get started on the tastes) surround us here in Chicago, but today really opened my eyes. I felt like I was seeing this city from a new perspective.

WE DO NOT REMEMBER DAYS, WE REMEMBER MOMENTS
Since moving back to KC, I've made a point to really put my camera to use and discover as much as I can within my hometown. Somehow, even having spent 18 years of my life in the boundaries of Kansas City, I'm only just now realizing all this magnificent city has to offer.
